Some really marvelous paintings by Robert Schwartz. I’ve only seen the work in reproduction and there’s next to no biographical information on the artist other than some bare details. The works, from what I’ve read rarely measure more than 10 inches wide, making them all the more remarkable, and are painted in either gouache or oil. They have something in common with the magical realism of artists like Paul Cadmus, George Tooker, and Jared French but have a character all their own.

Each painting is exquisitely imagined and the color is wonderful. It’s interesting that other than in the painting above, the sun is always on the left and .
