    Thanks, Margaret. So much art and so many galleries are so nihilistic… Anti-art…an art of jaundiced provocation.

    It occurs to me that a real avant-garde would need to be pro-humanistic values. Not in a corny or sentimental way, like new Academicism. In today’s climate, the most radical gesture would be to attempt to make art with deeply humanistic values, whether those of Michelangelo or Durer’s, Rembrandt’s or Goya’s. An art that is deeply emotional/spiritual as opposed to a mechanistic formalism or detached intellectualism.
